Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal
A brief stop outside the Hawa Mahal (translated means “Palace of Winds” or “Palace of the Breeze”) for some pictures see wikipedia page. It’s a really interesting building located in Jaipur and constructed of red and pink sandstone. It was built so the women of the palace could observe the street festivals without being seen from the outside. The structure was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It was designed by Lal Chand Ustad in the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god. According to the Loney Planet Jaipurs most distinctive landmark. It really does stand out alongside the ordinary buildings either side.
