Jami Masjid Courtyard in Mandu

 Jami Masjid Courtyard

Jami Masjid

Jami Masjid Courtyard in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, India. Jami Masjid was inspired by the great mosque of Damascus, this enormous structure is striking in both its simplicity and architectural style-with large courtyards and grand entrances. Coming to the end of my walk around Mandu the Ruined City I took this HDR shot as the shadows were quite strong. The symmetry is nigh on perfect of Jami Masjid which is in stark contrast to the ruins around. Thinking back Mandu is described as the “Ruined City” but the gardens are kept immaculate.

More on Mandu

Mandu the ruined city is in the present-day Mandav area of the Dhar district. It is located in the Malwa region of western Madhya Pradesh, India, at 35 km from the Dhar city. In the 11th century, Mandu was the sub division of the Tarangagadh or Taranga kingdom . This fortress town on a rocky outcrop about 100 km (62 mi) from Indore is celebrated for its fine architecture.
