A walk along Barkly Street Footscray reveals how multicultural the inner west side of Melbourne is. I lived here for a short time when arriving in Melbourne and loved it. There’s such a variety of restaurants; Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai and Ethiopian just to name a few.
You can spot the odd anti gentrification graffiti here and there but there is no doubt that Footscray is undergoing change. Amongst the old weatherboard buildings, historic hotels and colonial style shops there is the odd trendy restaurant/cafe dotted around and smaller apartment blocks popping up.
Gentrification for better or worse Footscray is still an intriguing place to explore especially for adventurous food lovers.
